James Nightingale

Vice President, Viticulture, Growers and Regions

James was promoted to Vice President, joining our executive leadership team, in December 2016. He was previously our Grower Business Relations Manager, overseeing our partnerships with longtime growers and those new to the Constellation family.

James’ initial interest in wine was sparked on a weekend visit to Mornington and the Yarra Valley while studying for a BSc in Earth Sciences at Waikato University. He went on to complete Lincoln University’s postgraduate qualification in Viticulture and Oenology as well as a two-year Matador Scholarship programme where he gained experience working in vineyards in Marlborough, Australia and the U.S. After a vintage in Australia, James managed vineyards in Central Otago for four years before settling in Marlborough.

James enjoys working in partnership with growers and experiencing the variety and excellence of New Zealand’s best growing regions. He thrives on the differences and challenges of an industry where no two seasons are the same and keeps his viticulture skills sharp by working in his own small vineyard. During his time away from work, he enjoys anything sports- and outdoor-related including biking, running and scuba diving, followed by a glass of wine with family and friends.
