Whether through the donation of dollars, supplies, or time, Constellation and our employees step up in times of need. In 2017, Constellation and our employees donated over $1,000,000 to disaster relief efforts following the devastating hurricane season in Florida, Puerto Rico and Texas, the wildfires in California, and the earthquakes in Mexico. In addition to dollars, we partnered with InterVol to transport much-needed supplies and water to Puerto Rico.
Our beer division teamed up with The V Foundation in 2010 to help in the search for a cure for cancer. Since then, we have supported this cause through the national Help Find a Cure program spotlighted by the annual NCAA basketball tournament, and through fundraisers, social media campaigns and sponsorships. We also enlist the help of our distributors and partners to further this worthy cause.
Since 2010's deadly earthquake in Haiti, we have been collaborating with community partners to assist with relief efforts. We have made four trips to Haiti since 2010, transporting medical professionals, much-needed supplies, and employee volunteers. Our support of this cause is ongoing, and we are continuing to work with organizations like InterVol and Rochester General Hospital to make a positive difference in Haiti
We have long been a supporter of performing arts in our communities. Each year the Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua, New York, and the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa, California enrich their communities both through their award-winning concert series and their commitment to giving a portion of proceeds to charitable causes.
At five (and growing) locations around the U.S., our “Smooth Finishers” team of employees supports the American Diabetes Association during their Tour de Cure events. Many of our teams and individual employees have been at or near the top for fundraising.
All our wineries in New Zealand are proud to be members of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, an industry group established in 1995. Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand provides members with environmental best practices for the vineyard and the winery, an external audit structure, and much more. The group also addresses consumer concerns about the environmental impacts of the products its members produce.
All our California wineries and vineyards are proud to be certified as part of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance third-party Certification Program. More than 1,300 acres of Constellation vineyards in Napa and Sonoma counties are certified in the Fish Friendly Farming program. The third-party certification is provided by the California Department of Fish and Game, regional water boards, and the National Marine Fisheries Service.
Approximately 380 acres of our vineyards in San Joaquin County are certified in the Lodi Rules Certification Program. This third-party certification program is designed to implement measurable improvements in ecosystem health, society-at-large, and wine quality, and is peer-reviewed by scientists, academics, and environmentalists. It requires growers to use a wide range of sustainable practices that result in farming operations improvement.
Robert Mondavi Winery and Franciscan Estate are certified under the Napa Green Winery Program by the Napa County Department of Environmental Management and the Association of Bay Area Government’s Green Business Program. To achieve certification, wineries must complete all regulatory components needed for environmental sustainability, including developing water and energy conversation methods, preventing pollution, and reducing solid waste.
Our Napa Valley Vineyard Operations team collaborated with the EPA, the Napa County Flood Control Agency and other partners on a Napa River Restoration project which benefits wildlife and promotes biodiversity, increases water quality within the restoration zone and improves flood control. The objective was to restore 9 miles of the Napa River from Oakville Cross Road to Oak Knoll Avenue. This reach comprised of approximately 70 parcels and 34 private entities including our Franciscan Oakville Estate and Wappo Hill Vineyards properties; 1.8 miles of our vineyard acres were redirected for river channel widening. Historic changes in land use and management had resulted in channel incision with bank failure, and erosion of channel bed forms such as riffles, bars and pools which have negatively impacted native salmon and steelhead trout populations.
